Chaminade
University
Chaminade
University was expanding and in need of additional classroom
and office space in time for the Fall 2001 semester. Group
70 International Inc. worked closely with Hawaii Modular Space
to design two modular buildings for the campus.
Located
on the upper slope of the campus, the new complex has a sprawling
view of Waikiki and Diamond Head. The design preserves the
character of the Spanish Mission-style architecture of the
existing campus buildings.
Behavioral
Science Building (Second Phase)
Eight modules make up this 5,607 square-foot school building
which includes two classrooms, nineteen offices, lunchroom,
copy room, men's and women's handicap accessible restrooms,
telephone closet and storage rooms.
The exterior
siding is Hardipanel "stucco" style with skirting
to match, painted to blend with the existing stucco campus
buildings. Windows are vinyl half sliders, mulled and grided.
The architectural design of the roof includes a Spanish-parapet
detail along the length of the modules. Vinyl wrap sheet rock
finishes the interior walls, and carpets cover all floors
except the restrooms and break room. The ceiling is a suspended
T-grid throughout. An ADA compliant ramp was added for easy
access to the building's main entrance.
Student
Support Services (First Phase)
This 2,883 square-foot building was designed to accommodate
Chaminade's new Learning Support Center Department: a career
services counseling department, and the department's faculty
offices. A covered walkway with columns and a Spanish ceramic-style
tiled shed roof add to the mission look of the design. The
interior layout includes a large area in the middle of the
building for students to use computer stations and meet with
counselors. There are seven faculty offices, a conference
room/break room and a copy room. The exterior windows are
horizontal half sliders with grids to coordinate with the
architectural style.
