Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc.

Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc. (TOTE) operates roll-on/roll-off cargo ships between the ports of Anchorage and Tacoma. TOTE is the premier ocean transport provider to Alaska and provides overland connections throughout Alaska, Canada and the lower 48 U.S. states.

At the Port of Anchorage, TOTE needed a large, efficient and comfortable operations center and turned to Alaska Modular Space for the solution.

The TOTE building structure clearly shows the versatility of modular construction. It is the largest single module ever produced at the factory.

The permanent CMU (concrete block) wall foundation was prepared while the building was being manufactured, which saved construction time. We used a 150-ton DeMag crane to place the structure onto the foundation.

It is appointed with an HVAC (heating and air conditioning) system, customized fire alarms, state-of-the-art computer and video monitoring equipment for dispatching and tracking shipments in and out of the facility.

Two handicap accessible restrooms were built into the structure, along with a custom aluminum handicap access ramp on the west side entrance. The east entrance has custom aluminum entry stairs.

A break room, office, dispatcher’s center, computer room and a longshoremen’s office are included in the building.
